Climate

The Black Hills of western South Dakota are known for having a more moderate climate than the surrounding prairies, making it an especially popular area among 55 and over communities.

Spring temperatures generally range from the 40s to low 60s with frequent rain or snow showers. The summer season sees mild precipitation with average temperatures in the 70s and 80s. The fall extends late in the Black Hills, providing warm sunny days and cool nights until the first snowfall arrives in October. Winter temperatures fluctuate causing snow on the plains to melt, but the deeper snow at higher elevations remains, guaranteeing great conditions for winter recreation activities.
